“Bushwacking” for the SKCC Tx5 Endorsement…

Last weekend the Straight Key Century Club (SKCC) celebrated its monthly “Weekend Sprintathon” or “WES”. It was a good opportunity to try the new end-fed wire up the tree in the backyard and also get in the log the additional QSOs needed to apply for SKCC Tribune level Tx5. The rig used was the 16-year old ICOM 706MKII-G in a rare opportunity for it to operate CW. The output power was abt. 70W. The old W6AME “Bushwacker” was operated as a “cootie” (by electrically connecting both sides of the paddle with the black short wire shown in the above picture). Thirty-two QSOs were logged, fifteen of which proved to be with SKCC Centurions, Tribunes or Senators new in the VE3DTI log, more than enough to support an application for Tribune Tx5 level endorsement:
