January the 4th was the birthday of my father. Born in 1897, he would have been 126 years old. In his childhood, in the early 1900s, in the town where he was born, he was a messenger for the National Telegraph, becoming a professional telegraphist when he was still in this teens. Hence, I set to make a few CW QSOs in his memory.
Conditions were not great due to a geomagnetic storm triggered by a CME. Nevertheless, using the old ICOM 706MKIIG at ~ 50W and the ~86 Ft.wire winding up the maples in the yard, being patient and trying several bands, I managed to log 5 new POTA stations, which were enough to be awarded two new POTA certificates.
Since my father and myself shared the same name, it is anyone’s guess whether they bear my name… or his…
